What is The Test Method of SATRA TM404:2020

1.Scope

This method is used to test the strength of the bond between the sole and upper at the toe and heel area of the lasted margin of completed footwear. The method is particularly applicable to the constructions that is stuck-on or moulded-on,with an extended sole edge. This test is suited to quality inspecting at the end of the producing line, which is between sole bonding and last slipping.

2.Principle

A force measuring system is linked to a thin rectangular steel plate with an arc shaped cut-out . The arc shape cut-out is placed on top of the extended edge of the sole of the test footwear, which contains a last at either the toe or the heel. The wearing surface of the sole is made to contact with a fulcrum which is away from the centre of the arc in a fixed distance. The lasted footwear is then rotated by hand about the fulcrum.The resulting leverage force (worked by the steel plate)is measured, which is required to separate the sole from the upper .

The toe-test may also be conducted non-destructively by applying a set maximum force and checking for failure of the bond.
