Water is a common impurity in oil products, mainly in three forms: suspended water, free water and dissolved water. Moisture in oil products will cause a series of hazards, which will seriously affect the performance of oil products and shorten the service life of equipment. Therefore, it is necessary to quickly, accurately and effectively measure the moisture in oil products. At present, there are various methods for the determination of moisture in oil products.

Sensors can measure the temperature and relative saturated water content of petroleum products. There are many types of sensors, mainly including moisture sensors and optical sensors. As the water concentration of the water sensor increases or decreases, the capacitance of the device also changes. By converting the water content into the capacitance value, the water content in the oil can be indirectly measured. The optical sensor converts the wavelength to moisture content by building a standard curve based on the change in the wavelength of light passing through the oil. The test results are expressed as percentages, etc. The polyimide capacitive humidity sensor and temperature sensor are used to realize the online detection of the trace water content in the oil, which can well reflect the trace water content in the transformer oil and achieve the purpose of online detection.
One disadvantage of the sensor method is that it is greatly affected by the environment. Temperature, atmospheric pressure, anti-icing agent, etc. will affect the experimental results, and the method cannot accurately quantify the free water content, and a standard curve needs to be established for conversion. Despite these limitations, the method is simple, fast, and enables on-line measurement of moisture.
