European Standards Committee released toy safety standard EN 71-1:2014+A1:2018

In June 2018, the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) issued EN 71-1:2014+A1:2018, the first part of the toy safety standard physical and mechanical performance, the new standard replaced the original standard EN 71-1:2014 and included 2018 Revisions A1, A2 and A3 approved by CEN on January 22.

The following new major standards have been updated:

Expanded to cover specific flying toys, throwing toys and magazines with projectiles;

New reference document EN 14682 - Children's Clothing Safety - ropes and drawstrings on children's clothing;

Changes to existing definitions and new definitions, including "bow and arrow", "rope", "dart", "fixed loop", "(projectile) guide", etc.;

Fix the following test requirements:

A. Clause 4.17 - Catapult toys

B. Clause 5.4 - Ropes and wires on toys

New terms:

A. Clause 4.26 - Toy costumes

B. Terms 4.27 - Flying Toys

Change some of the warning requirements in clause 7 - "Warnings, Labels and Instructions for Use";

Update test methods for catapult toys, flying toys, ropes and toy scooters;

According to EN 71-1:2014+A1:2018, the standard will become the national standard no later than November 2018, and other standards that conflict with it will be revoked at this date at the latest. It is expected that this standard will become the harmonized standard for the Toy Safety Directive (TSD) 2009/48/EC after the European Commission (EC) has officially accepted this standard and published it in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU).
